The NHS Shropshire Clinical Trial
The primary source of independent clinical evidence for the Linden Method.
The Linden Method was independently evaluated in a trial commissioned through NHS Shropshire and analysed by Martin Jensen (Kingston University / University of Copenhagen). It used the GAD-7 scale with 61 compliant participants across multiple anxiety diagnoses. Citation: Jensen, M. The efficacy of The Linden Method in eliminating anxiety symptoms in a cohort of anxiety sufferers.
Study Parameters
Core Statistical Result
18.28
Mean GAD-7 — Pre-Treatment
Severe anxiety category (≥18)
84.5% reduction
Z = −6.802
p < .001
2.84
Mean GAD-7 — Post-Treatment
Minimal anxiety (below threshold of 5)
Interpreting the result: The Wilcoxon signed-rank test (used because GAD-7 data is ordinal) produced Z = −6.802 and p < .001. A p-value of .001 means the observed result would occur by chance in fewer than 1 in 1,000 identical experiments. The standard clinical threshold for statistical significance is p < .05 — the Linden Method trial exceeds this by a factor of approximately 50.
GAD-7 Score Distribution: Pre vs Post
Number of participants in each severity category before and after the programme.
| GAD-7 Range | Category | Pre-Treatment (n) | Post-Treatment (n) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–4 | Minimal / None | 0 | 51 | +51 |
| 5–9 | Mild | 2 | 8 | +6 |
| 10–14 | Moderate | 4 | 2 | -2 |
| 15–21 | Severe | 55 | 0 | -55 |

Condition-Specific Outcomes
Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Primary diagnostic category. Chronic elevated worry across life domains. Highest representation in trial.
Panic Disorder
Episodic high-intensity fear response. Significant reduction in frequency and intensity of panic episodes.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Anxiety-driven intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviours. Addressed via reduction in baseline anxiety state.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Trauma-calibrated threat response. Programme addresses the anxiety state rather than the traumatic memory.
Agoraphobia
Avoidance-based disorder. Reduction in anxiety baseline reduces drive to avoid situations. Included in trial sample.
The 30-Year Outcome Record
Beyond the clinical trial, The Linden Centre has maintained internal outcome records since 1996. These are not academically reviewed and should be treated accordingly — but they represent a scale of longitudinal outcome documentation that no comparable programme matches.
